Our next concert is:
Saturday 12th December 2009 - “The Christmas Concert”
Ask anyone what the best-known
chorus in English music and most people will probably think straightaway
of ‘The Hallelujah Chorus’ from Handel’s Messiah! Now is
everyone’s chance to sing it in the company of a choir who have sung
it many times in the past. Grimsby Philharmonic Society are including
it in their ‘Carols Around the World Concert’ at Grimsby’s Central
Hall on Saturday 12th December at 7.30pm. It’s all part
of the ‘Sing Hallelujah’ project organized by BBC Radio 3 in which
hundreds of choirs all over the country are participating, mainly during
December, to encourage people to ‘have a go’. There will be a short
(20 minutes or so) rehearsal beforehand for those who have never sung
it before or indeed for anyone who needs it. The music will be provided
and everyone will be under the safe guidance of conductor Sue Hollingworth,
who’s Scunthorpe Cooperative Junior Choir won the BBC Choir of the
Year trophy in 2008. More information is available by phoning 01472
878889 or on bbc.co.uk/sing, which takes you to the Phil’s website
via the national list of choirs taking part. If you want to take part
but can’t make that date, Grimsby Bach Choir is also doing the Hallelujah
Chorus in their concert on 19th December in Grimsby Parish
Church at 7.30pm The concert also features two
special soloists; Judy Dennis will be playing the Celtic Harp and also
singing one or two carols and Cameron Richardson-Eames (winner of the
Phil-sponsored Most Promising Young Singer trophy at Cleethorpes Festival)
will showcase some of his many musical and spoken word talents. Tickets are priced £5-£8
and are obtainable from choir members, The Caxton Theatre ticket office
